Dévolier le monde

Date : 5 June, 2023

Very happy to participate in DÉVOILER LE MONDE (Unveiling the world), at Galerie The Bridge by Christian Berst in Paris. An exhibition that puts the work of Andrés Fernández and mine into dialogue, both being geographers in a certain way.

Graciela García, researcher and curator specialized in art brut, creates a dialogue between the work of two Spanish artists: Andrés Fernández with the eye of a cartographer, Santiago Talavera with that of a landscape gardener.

The infinitely poetic universe of Andrés Fernández obeys an intimate impulse that pushes him to relate to those around him like a scientist. His work forms a system of drawings, maps and lists in which he exhaustively collects data from external reality and exposes his visions of the mysteries of the world. Due to his limited communication skills, it is very difficult to tell if Andrés’s interviews are inspired by dreams, intuitions of a future world, or memories. His works have already been exhibited twice at the Berlin Biennale and at the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art.

Andrés Fernández focuses on the origin: the mystery of the birth and evolution of a human life, as can be seen in the Life and Pre-Life Map where all the great stages of the life of an existence are developed until its end.

When Santiago Talavera immersed himself in the work of Andrés Fernández, he was amazed by the simplicity with which he expressed deep, intimate and universal concerns. In response, his latest creations are invaded by rails that fly over inhospitable landscapes. With some kind of giant slides, would you have found a way to connect or overcome something fragmented?

The central axis of the work of Santiago Talavera is the reflection on the human condition through the symbolic possibilities of the landscape. Overwhelmed by the drift of a semi-capitalist society as well as by the acceleration of ruthless commodification, Santiago invents the vestiges of a future without humans, in which animals live in freedom.
